Dan was my friend and mentor. Our paths crossed many times through the mission of the Tacoma - Pierce County Chaplaincy organization. I was a Seattle Firefighter assigned to support our Fire Chaplain and his team. I soon became involved in the TPCC Chaplain Academy which Dan was instrumental in founding and administering as Director. Our association become tighter when he retired from that position and asked me to take his place. It was an honor to follow in his footsteps and be mentored by him along the way. I am forever grateful that Dan and I served to prepare Public Safety Chaplains in their mission to come alongside those who were experiencing the worst days of their lives. Aside from the mayhem of Police and Fire, my fondest memories of Dan were joining him at the Newberg Sharis (which closed) then at the Black Bear for a tasty lunch and time of storytelling. There is a big hole in my heart, but I look forward to seeing his smiling face one day soon in that place where there is no sickness or death or tears as promised by our Savior.
