Daniel A Sciacqua's Obituary
Daniel Sciacqua
"Big Dan"
Born in Seattle on August 5, 1954 and passed away April 30, 2013.
Dan was a Tacoma native but lived in Olympia this past 20-years. Dan was a friend to all who were lucky enough to know him. He was a loyal employee of 32-years at Pierce Transit. Dan had lifelong passion for cars and was an avid racing enthusiast. Dan is survived by his loving wife Dixie of 21-years, his brother John, four children (Sheila, Jeff, Jami, and Lorrie), and 9-grandchildren.
Dan had a passion for cars and enjoyed owning a variety models, new and old. He really loved road trips and it was always hard to get him out from behind the wheel, even if your bladder was bursting. His passion for cars began before he could walk or talk. As a boy, Dan delivered newspapers to auto dealers along South Tacoma Way and spent much of his free time pretending he was driving them all. As an adult Dan became an avid car racing enthusiast, he loved dirt cup racing and NASCAR.
Big Dan was always ready to offer advice and help with any automotive concern that came his way, spending hours explaining why the thing ticked this way or that. His long pauses were spent listening and processing information before he would offer his opinion in great length and clarity to ensure you had every detail.
Dan was a little crazy about his dogs, especially his dachshunds (Teeny Weenie, Weinerschnitzel, and Chewie). But not be denied, his rottenweiler loved him dearly and counted on him for care and love. Dan was a dog's best friend, not the dog was Dan's best friend.
A friend to all who were lucky enough to know him, Dan was the king of the one liners, his original sense of humor was continually catching us all off guard. He was colorfully expressive and could spin a yarn like nobody's business, always making sure he told you the "whole" story, in every little detail.
Great words that describe how Dan lived his life include: integrity, honesty, tenacity, loving, caring, thoughtful, careful listening, and mindfulness. He set the bar high on how we should all live our lives. He will be greatly missed by all those who love and cherish him.
Memorial services will be held at Mt. View's Valley Chapel on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM. For more information visit www.mountainviewtacoma.com.
