Daniel B. Horrigan's Obituary
Daniel B. Horrigan of Puyallup, WA, died on January 17th, 2017 at the age of 76. He had a short but tough battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma, which he fought to the very end, in his typical stubborn way. Dan was born on 4/19/1940 in Chicago, IL, but spent his early childhood years in San Francisco with parents Edward and Esther, twin brother Dennis, and older brother Pat. The family settled in Tacoma, WA where many summers were spent at Alder Lake fishing and swimming at a family cabin. Dan and his brothers enjoyed the cars of day, occasion drag racing, and other teenage shenanigans. Dan married Marianne (Parsons) Lake and together they had 3 children, (daughter) Bebhinn, Aidan and Liam, (sons). He also raised stepdaughter Aimee Brown with Marianne. After the couple divorced, Dan was married for a short time to Carol Horrigan, with whom he had one child, Thomas (Tommy) Horrigan. Dan attended Bates Technical School in 1976 to obtain his licensed practical nursing certification. He was proud to be a part of what was only the second class to admit men to the program. He worked for over 40 years in the field of nursing, including many years at the Rainier School in Buckley, and the last 12 years at the Pearl St. Center in Tacoma. Besides being a great nurse, Dan was a great father. He enjoyed simple family gatherings where he made the giant bowl of macaroni salad and always had his video camera out, and without question, birthdays meant the Spaghetti Factory. Dan had a hilarious sense of humor, but could also be shy at times. His kids knew him equally as the guy with a keen interest in pop culture and the rappers and musicians of the day, and also as the guy who read at least 3 books a week.
His entire family misses him dearly, including all his children, his older brother Pat Horrigan (Sharon), 2 grandchildren, niece and nephews, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by twin brother, Dennis Horrigan.
Please join us to celebrate the life of Daniel B. Horrigan in all the ways he loved best, by sharing great stories memories and enjoying food from his favorite restaurant: The Old Spaghetti Factory.
