Cathy, Jamie and Mike: I know this is an extremely difficult time for you and your family right now. Dallas had an impact on all of our lives and the memories definitely will be with us forever. I still remember when Jamie, Angel & I rode together in the Youth class at Clark County Fairgrounds. It was the first time we rode together and the first time penning. Dallas and dad were cheering for us on and giving us advice as to how the average worked and what we needed to do on our next run. They were all so happy when we won the class and brought home our first buckles in penning. Dallas was always there to help guide anyone when it came to penning and sorting. Growing up around him at the pennings, I felt that he was like a dad to me. I will continue to use many things that he has taught me. I am sad that he has moved on to be with Winner but am very happy that he is no longer in pain. Cathy and Jamie,
I know that this must be a horrible time in your lives right now with the loss of such a kind hearted and beautiful soul. Since knowing you all, since at least 1993, Dallas has helped me in my penning skills and made me want to do better in all things horses. It was always nice to have that other fatherly voice calmly explain what went wrong in a run and was always extremely graceful when delivering the news that it might have been me that made the error in the run. I thank God every day for people like the Shumakers in my life. Please know that if any of you need anything do not hesitate to contact me. I love you both and grieve for your loss. Jamie, Cathy & Mike: you are in our daily thoughts & prayers. Dallas has left an imprint on all of us we will never forget. He taught us so much, I will always remember winning my first two team penning buckles with him. He was always so patient and willing to help us learn the game. We are blessed to have had the opportunity to know and team pen with him. We will cherish all those good times. We love you and are here for anything you need. Cathy, Jamie and Mike,
You are in our thoughts and prayers daily. As you already know, Dallas will be greatly missed. We were talking the other day about the good times and all the penning and traveling we did from Okanogan, Yakima, Oregon, Reno and all over, one time especially comes to mind -- when we had entered the girls in their first penning at Clark County - Jamie and Angel about 15 years old and April 11. Dallas rode his Paint (Patches?) and we had the girls ride Danny and Valley. It took alot of convincing for the girls to believe us that they won their first buckles. But boy was he proud!!
Dallas was always helpful in assisting me (Deb) with my penning and riding.
And when Cooner went nuts in Spokane's arena from the birds he warmed her up and calmed her down for me (Deb). We even won that day.
He was one of the first ones at the Arena in Okanogan when Valley flipped over backwards with me - and then too when I rode with him and fractured my face in Yakima - he was always calm and reassuring. Guess some good comes out of the bad - since I was injured it was a great opportunity for Bob and Dallas and Jamie to ride in Reno and win those Buckles!!! Jamie, I am so happy that you won with your Dad.
Bob has so many memories of his time penning, and especially hunting with Dallas. He was such a big part of our lives as well.

Cathy, Jamie & (Mike) Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. Dallas will be missed so much by all. He helped me so much in my riding and was always encouraging. I will never forget at the Tacoma unit when he asked me why I was not riding "Kelly" when I said because Mike is riding him, he again said , no WHY are you not riding him. He was such a special person. We will treasure all the time we spent together, all the Cascade events camping and the other times. Mike will never forget the weekend away with the boys, him Dallas and Jeff. Times to treasure for sure. Please let us know if you need anything, know we are here for you.

Cathy, Jamie, and Mike, We love you always. We will miss Dallas very much. In the last 8 years or so we have been with Dallas almost every weekend and sometimes in between. We will always remember how much he cared that we did well penning and sorting, and how he helped us. We will always remember his belly laugh and really loud snoring!!! To the Shumaker family, Our deepest and most sincere condolences go to you during his tough time. Saturday nights at Flying M will not be the same without Dallas in the pen, but with the cow horse knowledge he so freely shared with all, pieces of him will live on in all of us. He truely brought meaning to the term cowboy by living to it's code and will be dearly missed by many.
