Daisy Dean Hanks' Obituary
Daisy Dean Hanks (Daniels) passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20th, 2024, surrounded by her family just the way she would like it. She was 100 years old. She was born in Leland, Utah, on October 17th, 1923, the third child of Rex Owen and Daisy Harding Daniels. Daisy's siblings include June Daniels England, Rex Owen Daniels (Bud), and Tina Lou Daniels Walton.
Daisy married Joseph Junior Hanks on August 12th, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of three children: Mark (Janet), Lynn (Gail), and JoDean (Mark) Thatcher. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Daisy was preceded in death by her husband (Joe) of 78 years, her parents, her sister June, her brother Bud, her sister Tina Lou, and her great-granddaughter Avery Jo.
Daisy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived a Christ-like life serving others and used her leadership skills to serve faithfully as a Relief Society president and ministering sister into her ‘90s.
Joe and Daisy had a passion for travel, visiting Yellowstone annually and exploring destinations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, New Zealand, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, the Panama Canal, and many locations throughout the US and Canada.
Daisy had many friends and loved to socialize. She participated in sports, including skiing, bowling, and golfing. She even achieved a hole-in-one in her ’80s at the Tacoma Country Club, where she and her friends could be seen jumping up and down on the green in celebration. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with Joe in her younger years and had a true outdoorsy spirit. Daisy was an avid gardener, and visiting her house in the summer was like stepping into a Garden of Eden.
Her life exemplified service and love for those around her. She volunteered at Tacoma General Hospital spending many hours. Daisy’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 17th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5420 104th St SW, Lakewood WA 98499. Viewing will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
