Cynthia C. Wilson's Obituary
Cynthia Carpenter Wilson passed away peacefully on April 24th, 2013. “C.C.” was known for her frequent smile, her intelligence, her generosity and her humility. Her last year was remarkable for her cheerful resiliency.
Born in Milwaukee, WI in 1925, to Charles and Joy Carpenter, C.C. attended Moorestown Friends School and then graduated from Smith College. She married her childhood sweetheart, Winfield, in 1947.
C.C. recently lived in Franke Tobey Jones retirement community, where she loved her many neighbors, the staff and the community activities. Previously, Win & C.C. lived in their beloved cottage on Lake Steilacoom in Lakewood for 35 years. There she enjoyed close friendships, gardening, golfing at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club, and being a member of two book clubs. She attended Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood where she was active at the Food Bank. She was an integral volunteer for UNICEF-Pierce County and enjoyed Win’s active participation in the Tacoma GYRO. Mom was our private “Google” and could be counted on to know most of the answers on “Jeopardy.”
C.C. was preceded in death by husband Win and son Charlie, and is survived by daughters Joy Wilson Oakey (Richard - Media, PA) and Ann Wilson (John Allen-Tacoma), and son W. Scott Wilson III (Jaci- Beaverton, OR). C.C. is also survived by sister Jane Carpenter Post (Mantoloking, NJ), brother Charlie Carpenter (Riverside, IL) and brother-in-law Richard Wilson (South Strafford, VT) and many loved nephews, nieces and in-laws across the USA. Her six grandchildren Richard and John Oakey, Johanna and Dawson Allen, Alexandra and Alaina Wilson all sorely miss their “MiMom”.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Franke Tobey Jones Wellness Center on Saturday June 15th at 9:30 AM. C.C.’s internment to follow in South Stafford, VT on August 24th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FISH Food Bank (Lakewood, WA), Moorestown Friends School (Moorestown, NJ) or Smith College (Northhampton, MA).
Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
