Cynthia Jo Jackson's Obituary
Cynthia Jo Jackson (Cindee) passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2021.
Cindee was born in Vancouver, Washington on May 8, 1951. She was the first born to Herbert Theodore and Elinor Mae Jackson. In the next few years, the Jackson family would expand with additional siblings (James, Susan, and Donald) and decrease (Herbert passed away in 1959). In the early 196os the Jackson family expanded again when Elinor married Glen V. Pero and, lucky for us, Glen brought with him the bonus of another brother (Greg) and sister (Tracy). Our tribe was set now.
Cindee graduated from Curtis High School in 1969 and Central Washington State College (now Central Washington University) in 1973. She was almost ready to settle into a teaching job in Tacoma, but first she had a dream to fulfill. She had listened to President John F. Kennedy speak about the Peace Corps, and she was hooked. After college, she served a two-year mission in Nicaragua and had the time of her life and made friends for life.
When she came home, she established a teaching career at Jason Lee Middle School and made a home, which she always had open to friends and family. She loved music, cooking, camping, and traveling.
She leaves behind all of her siblings (including their respective wives and husbands), various nieces and nephews, her best friend Tim Durnford, cousins too many to count, friends from around the world, and her very, very best four-legged friend, Bowie.
We will have a small memorial for family (only) now, but are hoping for a big picnic/potluck in the summer (Cindee loved potlucks). If you feel you’d like to do or donate something in her honor (please, no flowers for us/her), give your time and/or your money to something that is important to you. Or, if you’d like, these services were very important to Cindee: Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, and KPBS.
Cindee, we miss you.
