Curtis Savage's Obituary
This is a story about a man, a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, and a friend who brought happiness and love to everyone he met.
Curtis Lyle Savage was born on January 25, 1968 to Thomas Savage and Yvonne Downing Savage in the quaint town of Enumclaw, Washington. His older brother Sigg laid first claim to the Savage name, yet Curt was the oldest brother to sister Rene, brother Rodney, and sister Marcy. Curt’s siblings and their children were so important to him and some of his greatest stories, memories, and laughter came from spending time with them. He was ruthless in his ability to tease, poke fun at, and often laugh at them.
Curt was lucky enough to have an aunt and uncle, Uncle Randy and Aunt Dixie, who treated him like a son and who surrounded him with love when he needed it most. They provided a safe haven for him and made sure he knew he was important.
Curt also shared a special relationship with another brother, who just didn’t happen to be related by blood. Vern was a lifelong friend since they were five years old, and their friendship took them on vacations together, priceless memories just hanging out, and starting several businesses together. Friendships like that are hard to find, and they were lucky to have each other.
Curtis and Chris Melican married in 1991 and had three beautiful children together. Britney, Kyle, and Courtney were his reasons for living and he was so proud of each of them. He loved bragging about Britney’s rise in the corporate world and Kyle’s Merchant Mariner service and career. When Britney made him a grandfather, he took on the proud role of Papa to Laili and Arlo. He loved being the fun Papa! Curt passed on his genetically-honed dancing skills to Kyle and to Arlo, a gift that will just keep on giving. Although his marriage with Chris ended, their friendship did not and Curt enjoyed spending family time with Chris and her husband Bill Currie.
Curt was one of the hardest workers out there. He owned several businesses throughout his career as a master plumber, helping others out during some crappy times (did we mention Curt was funny and punny?) There was never a job too large or too small and he prided himself on providing the best customer service and quality work. Curt was proud that he received his GED on the same day that his son, Kyle, graduated from high school in 2011.
In 2018, Curtis married Heidi Renoud and he welcomed Max, Noah and Jenny into his big heart and into the Savage family. Several years ago, his family grew again as a sister, Mary Edlund, was discovered and the siblings and their families were able to meet.
Over the last few months, Curt was able to spend a lot of time with his sister Rene and niece Venessa. He loved attending and worshipping at The Gathering Place church with them, hanging with his brother Rodney, and face-timing with his nephew Thomas. He was so proud of all of them, as well as his nephew Caleb who is off serving in the military.
Curt never met a stranger and was everyone’s best friend. He lived life to the fullest, had the biggest heart, and shared that love with everyone. His spirit was contagious and, even when he was having a terrible day, he’d make sure everyone else was taken care of and was laughing…even if it was at his expense. A true jokester, a comedian who could laugh at his own jokes, and a fierce and loyal friend.
Some may remember Curtis as a Raiders fan, but he was ultimately a Seahawks fan (GO HAWKS!) and enjoyed many years as a season ticket holder. Curt even got to attend a Superbowl game! When he wasn’t coaching the Seahawks from his seat or an armchair, he was crabbing, fishing, driving a log truck, or spending time at the beach and on the water. And if he could get to any of these activities by motorcycle, even better!
Curtis left this world far too soon on December 4, 2023. He was surely greeted with open arms by his mom, his dad, his daughter Courtney, many aunts and uncles who he loved, and the Lord. We know he gave his signature bear hug back to each of them. What we wouldn’t all give to get just one more of those massive hugs! He leaves behind an extended and beloved family far too long to list, but each of them held a special place in his heart.
If you find yourself laughing after you trip or spill a drink, it’s probably Curt just popping in to remind you he’s still here and he’s still laughing with you. In honor of this larger-than-life man who impacted us in so many ways, his family hopes that you will find ways to bring a smile to someone else because that’s what Curtis Lyle Savage would do.
We’ll miss you forever, Curt…Dad…Pops…Papa…ol’ man…Curty…brother…friend. Rest easy, we will take it from here, and we’ll love everyone hard for you! When we speak of you, it will be in the present tense because we know you are here with all of us!
A private remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held in Albany, Oregon on December 9th.
