Curtis L. Broom Sr.'s Obituary
Curtis L. Broom, Sr. was born January 14, 1959, in Forrest City, Arkansas, to the union of Abraham Broom, Sr. and Shirley B. (Daniel) Broom. He was the eldest son of nine children. He received his early education at Coleman Elementary School, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; graduating from Watson Chapel High School in 1977. He continued his education by earning several certifications in Maintenance and an Associate Degree in Grounds and Custodial Engineering at Pierce College, Lakewood Washington.
Curtis relocated to Tacoma, Washington in 1992. In 1993, he met and married Kathy Mustin. He was a dedicated member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as Deacon, Sunday School Instructor, Choir Member and Musician until his health prevented him from attending. He was also one of the founding members of the Family of Faith Gospel Singers, Tacoma, ministering throughout Washington and Oregon for many years. Prior to relocating to Washington, he was a well-known singer and musician in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and surrounding areas.
Curtis was employed as a Custodian at Steilacoom School District for more than 29 years; retiring in the role of Lead Custodian in 2024. He was greeted in Heaven by his wife, Kathy; daughter Jatharee; his parents; grandparents, and Sister Deloris.
On March 3, 2026, Curtis transitioned to eternal life. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Curtis, Jr., Steven and Marlon Broom; Daryl King and Towaya Rice of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Isaac Mustin (Natasha), Kenneth Jordan (Frances) and Kennisha Jefferson (Ela-Frances) of Tacoma, WA.
Brothers: David Broom, Sr. (Charlene), Leesville, LA; Melvin Broom, Tacoma, WA; Abraham Broom, Jr., Pine Bluff, AR and Devin Pruitt, Maumelle, AR.
Sisters: Patricia Jackson-Holley (Edward), DuPont, WA; Doris Broom and Effie Murphy (Andre) of Pine Bluff, AR.
Adopted family: Mary Stephens and Anniesue Goldsmith, Tacoma, WA.
Twenty-eight grandchildren; one uncle, three aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
