It's taken me 2 weeks to find the strength to write this, so bear with me. My best friend, Craig Patton, passed away unexpectedly, and I'm struggling with it. We met in high school almost 40 years ago. Had similar interests in racing cars, SCUBA diving, girls, and getting into trouble. He was in Hawaii with me when I met Brandie. He was with me when I purchased the ring. He drove up to Whistler, BC, the day after I popped the question to celebrate with us. He stood beside me at our wedding, and his signature will live forever on our marriage certificate. Once I left the military and moved away to Michigan to start a family, Craig and I remained close. We'd get together a few times a year, either in WA or MI. He became the unofficial "uncle" to my two boys, and I know my brothers didn't mind sharing with Uncle Craig. Craig was such a kind soul who always elevated the mood. Funny, adventurous, and loved sharing the outdoors with his four-legged partner in crime, "Buddy". I remember calling him from MI in 2019 to tell him that I planned a 2-week Overland trip to Colorado and Utah with my 16-year-old son Kevin. His reply was, "I'll meet you in Ouray, CO." And then we did it again in 2020. Epic adventures and memories through the Rockies and Moab, UT. "Fun & Excitement". We'd go to Seattle Sounders games together, including the MLS Cup when I was in WA. We'd hit the slopes in the winter. Craig would visit us in MI in the summer. Great times on the boat, golf course, and around the fire pit. He even flew out to attend Ryan and Lindsay's wedding. He was more than a friend; he was an integral part of our family. I'm so sad that he left us way too soon. We had so many more adventures to take. Fires to sit around. Family milestones to share. I pray that you continue to look over us and join us on our crazy adventures. Our family is left with a Craig sized hole in it. But you will remain in our hearts forever. I love and miss you bud...
