Conrad J. Boekholt's Obituary
CONRAD J. BOEKHOLT
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather was born in Arnhem, Holland on December 22, 1920 and passed away peacefully in Tacoma on April 02, 2010. As a young man, he endured the hardships of the Nazi occupation of his homeland until it was liberated by the Allied forces. He then served as a Radio Officer with the Dutch Merchant Marines until 1950 when he met and married Barbara Windsor and made Tacoma his home. Conrad was employed by Friden, which became Singer Business Machines, for 33 years until his retirement in 1985. He loved to build from kits and made clocks, a TV and a HAM radio set where he spent endless hours communicating with others from around the world from his kitchen. He also enjoyed building an elaborate HO train set-up in his basement. The family spent many years tent and trailer camping. Later, cruising and trips to Holland and England became highlights in Conrad and Barbara's life. Conrad was preceded in death by his son, Derek, his parents and his sister, Betsy. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara, son, John (Julie) and daughter, Julie Harding. Also surviving are three grandsons, one granddaughter, two step-grandsons and his sister, Gerry VanSchuppen along with many nieces and nephews. A celebration of the life of this well loved, gentle man will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parkinson's Disease research at michaeljfox.org or to the Tacoma Rescue Mission. An online guestbook is available at www.mountainviewtacoma.com .
