Retired Lt Colonel Stanley W Flieg's Obituary
Retired Lt. Colonel Stanley W. Flieg, age 95, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at his home in DuPont, WA surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Stan was born in Herculaneum, MO on March 5, 1920 to Agnes and George Flieg. He married the love of his life Betty L. Bradley in 1942. Stationed in England during WWII, Stan was a lead bombardier and B17 navigator. He served his country completing 30 successful missions. His heroics earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross, (3) Oak Leaf Clusters along with other military recognitions. Retiring at McChord Air Force Base after 25 years of service, Stan spent the next 18 years working for the Washington State Department of Fisheries. Upon retirement from the state, Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and numerous other hobbies. Stan and Betty have been active parishioners at St. Francis Cabrini Church for the past 40 years.
Stan is survived by his beloved wife Betty of 73 years, daughters Sandra Walters, Debbie Gerzsenye, Kimberly Morlan, Christie Whitney and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members.
Stan was a man of faith, integrity, and displayed the highest work ethics and morals in everything he did. His presence will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Visitation will be from 1pm-4pm at Mountain View Funeral Home on Sunday, October 25. Funeral services will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Lakewood on Monday, October 26 at 11am. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church reception hall. Following the reception, a military service will be held graveside at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation made in his name to the Humane Society.
