Colleen Forsland's Obituary
Colleen (Tingstad) Forsland
Colleen (Co) was born in North Dakota and moved to Tacoma with her family in 1939. She passed away peacefully on September 26, 2020, just three weeks after her 85th birthday.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953 and began working for Puget Sound Bank. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Don Forsland, who she first met in the second grade at Fern Hill School. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Don’s passing.
Co became a full time home-maker after the birth of their first child. She excelled at that profession, quickly rising to CEO of the family. She kept an immaculate house, had dinner on the table every night at 5:00, and could iron a crease in slacks any dry cleaner would be envious of. She would balance the checkbook to the penny every month, keep a calendar of all activities, and plan vacations and getaways leaving out no details.
Co enjoyed yardwork and flower gardening and created a park-like setting in her yard. She loved sports of all kinds and followed the Seahawks and Mariners. She could be found many summer evenings weeding the flower beds with the radio nearby listening to the Mariners. She was also the biggest Duke University basketball fan outside of North Carolina. She enjoyed shopping and her soap operas.
Family was everything to Co. She was the mom everyone depended on. She was a PTA member, Room Mom, Blue Bird leader, car pool organizer, and team mom.
As great of a mom she was, she was an even better grandma. Her three grandsons were her world. She would light up when they were around and would talk endlessly to anyone about them. She was the go-to babysitter never declining a request. She attended all of their activities never missing an opportunity to point out to others which one was “hers”.
Co will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren. Her smile, laughter, teachings, and wisdom will be remembered forever. Co is survived by daughters, Tami Walker (Rick) and Teri Kheriaty (Paul) and three grandsons; Jacob Walker, Matthew Walker, and Alex Kheriaty. Sister, Arlene McArthur and brothers, Ed Tingstad and Ron Tingstad.
The family would like to thank the staff at River Rock Adult Family Home and Multicare Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Colleen's name to Multicare Hospice or your favorite charity.
