Clifford Walter Schinnerer went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Jan. 31. He was 87.
Cliff was born in 1933 in Los Angeles and grew up in southern California with his parents, Walter and Selma Schinnerer, and his sister, Marian.
He was an avid fan of the California Angels and passed that down to his sons, who still proudly support the Halos.
In 1953 Cliff joined the Army and served in the Korean War in a small arms infantry unit.
Cliff worked more than 40 years in the telephone industry, outlasting all the changes in business titles from Ma Bell to Pacific Bell and US West to Qwest. In retirement he displayed his loyalty to the old-school phone companies by carrying a flip phone.
Cliff enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing with friends at Brownlee Reservoir in Idaho. He had a passion for bicycling and loved to ride his bike to work. He also enjoyed collecting stamps, rocks, photography and Qwest apparel and accumulated large collections over his lifetime.
A devoted servant to God, Cliff lived in the shadow of the cross and went on several church missions that took him to Guam and Alaska with his friends and fellow parishioners. He was a longtime member of Friendship Celebration Lutheran Church in Meridian, Idaho and Zion Lutheran Church in Tacoma, Washington.
Cliff is survived by his children, Dave Schinnerer, Alesa Burkett, Michelle Neeb and Christopher Schinnerer, and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service is being planned for sometime in the Spring near Boise Idaho. For more information please contact Chris Schinnerer at [email protected]
