Claudie Mae Heard's Obituary
Claudie Mae Heard (Webb) was born on October 10, 1932 in Natchez, MS. She grew up in Natchez until the age of 15, at which time she moved to Los Angeles, CA to live with her aunt Ella Cotton. Shortly after graduating from high school, she joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. There she met and fell in love with a fellow soldier, Frank Heard Jr. Claudie and Frank married weeks later, and began a beautiful, wonderful, and adventurous life together.
Claudie enjoyed serving St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was a member for over 40 years. When she wasn't busy baking or shuttling her brood from one activity to another, she enjoyed giving back by volunteering to help struggling students learn to read at several area elementary schools and participating in Kiwanis Club, Tacoma Mall chapter.
On Saturday, March 21, 2015, Claudie died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at St. Joseph's hospital in Tacoma, WA. She was 82. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Frank Heard Jr., a son, Frank A. Heard (Tracie), daughters Sonya Jones (Toby) of Manassas Park, VA, Ella Johnson of Los Angeles, CA, and Francesca Heard of Tacoma. She also leaves behind 3 sisters: Bessie Leake (Jack) of Crosby, MS , Naomi Hall (Joe) and Gail Williams of Natchez, MS, as well as 9 grandchildren, 5 great grand children, and dozens of close friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, Claude and Sophronia Webb, her daughter Katrina Smith (Heard), and her sister Irene Thomas.
Home going service will be at 12 noon, Saturday, March 28, at Mountain View Funeral Home, Aspen Chapel, in Lakewood, WA. Remembrances may be shared at www.mountainviewtacoma.com
