Claire Daily StafinbilSurrounded by family and friends, Claire passed away peacefully on September 15 at the age of 73. Born in Methuen, MA, Claire had a long and distinguished career as a nurse. Graduating from the Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing, Claire joined the United States Army serving in Germany as well as at the Madigan Army Medical Center. Separating from the Army in 1963, she began a 28-year career as a civilian nurse at Madigan, retiring in 1991. During her tenure at Madigan, she mentored many of the ArmyÂ's nurses and doctors who passed through the hospital as young residents and student nurses. Her dedication and organization led to her being selected as MadiganÂ's first civilian head nurse. Following her retirement, Claire became actively involved in the hospitalÂ's breast cancer program, volunteering in its clinic. She also became an active force within the Madigan Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to assist MadiganÂ's health care providers in their quest for health care excellence. At the time of her passing, Claire had been serving on the Board of the Foundation.Claire was preceded in death by Henry Daily, Jr. and is survived and fondly remembered by her husband, Loy James Stafinbil, her six children James Daily, Carol Frey, Margie Rodgers, Betty Alexis, Bill Daily, and Cathy Allen, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, sister Betty Student, and many nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, September 21, at the Celebration of Life Center, Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma. An additional service will be held at the Madigan Army Medical Center Chapel on October 1 at 11:45am. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that remembrances be made to the Madigan Foundation, P.O.
