Christine Chase Kellogg's Obituary
Christine Chase Kellogg, a beloved educator, community member, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Tacoma, Washington on September 5, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on February 27, 1941, in Ellensburg, Washington, Christine grew up on a farm—but she was never your typical farm girl. Her curiosity and drive led her far beyond the fields of her childhood to the halls of Columbia University in New York, where she earned her master's degree in education. With a deep commitment to equity and learning, Christine began her teaching career in Harlem during the transformative 1960s, touching countless lives with her compassion, wisdom, and strength.
Christine was known for her warmth and generosity. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen and heard—many found comfort in her presence and trusted her with their stories, knowing they would be met with kindness and understanding. Her impact extended beyond the classroom and into the communities she served, including her work with the Sustainers in Yakima, where she continued to uplift and support others.
A lover of dogs, Christine had many furry companions throughout her life, many of them West Highland Terriers affectionately named Widget. Her sense of humor and gentle spirit made her a joy to be around, and her stories—often shared with a twinkle in her eye—will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Christine’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to others. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and the many communities she enriched with her presence.
