Christine C. Scott's Obituary
Christine Collier Scott
Dec. 27, 1917 ~ June 13, 2009
Christine Collier Scott was born to Harry H. Collier and Estelle Nichols Collier on December 27, 1917 in what is now Lakewood, Washington. As the youngest of nine children she was an aunt at her birth and her niece and nephews, Tom Terrien, Ed Terrien, Betty Terrien Ryker and Harry Terrien were her childhood playmates who remained her close friend throughout her life. Christine attended Clover Park when it was still a junior high school and graduated from Stadium High School in 1936. Upon graduation, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a PBX operator. In 1940, she moved to Bellingham, Washington to attend Western Washington State College (now University). While in Bellingham, she met Russell Huntington Scott, a graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma. They married June 7, 1941. Christine was a very active stay-at-home Mom to daughters Barbara and Margaret. When the family resided in the Tri-Cities, Christine was active in the Allied Arts of Richland, WA serving a term as its chairman. She worked hard for the Democratic Party and the Women's Democratic Club. When she changed her allegiance to the Republication Party late in life she responded to razzing with a forcefully stated "The Party left me." She was the Chairman of a successful Bond Drive for the Mid Columbia Regional Library, using her artistic abilities to create the logo for promotional literature. When her husband Russ died unexpectedly March 23, 1973, Christine sold the family home in Kennewick and relocated to Ballard, Washington to be close to her daughter Margaret, her son-in-law Neil W. Storey and her two grandchildren, Christopher and Wynne. In 1990, she sold her home in Ballard and with her daughter, Barbara, purchased a home in Lakewood, a little more than a block away from her childhood home. They shared that home for 19 years. Christine battled declining health since September 2007. On June 13, 2009 she completed her journey on this earth at home with family members present. She is survived by daughters Barbara G. Scott; Margaret Scott Storey; son-in-law Neil W. Storey; grandson Christopher N. Storey and his wife Susan B. Storey; granddaughter Wynne D. Webster and her husband Alexander S. Webster and their children, Natalie Anne, Benjamin Scott and Emma Grace. The family extends their great appreciation to the staff of Franciscan Hospice for all their assistance during Christine's final seven weeks. At Christine's request there was no service. The family requests that any memorials be sent to The Franciscan Hospice or to your favorite public library.
