I went to Central Valley High School with Chris and he was one of the nicest friends a person could have. He always had such a fun loving spirit and warmest smile. Although I have not kept in touch with Chris since we graduated, I know he went on to do great things and loved his life. Blessings to family and friends - we were all very fortunate to have spent some time on this Earth with him.
Chris was a wonderful, caring, and generous brother. He was always available to advise our daughter, Christine, in all matters regarding her new military career. We had always looked forward to sharing more time with Chris and Tammie after retiring back home after so many years abroad. But alas that is not to be. Chris was truely seen as a beloved brother and the most heartfelt and caring person who indeed was adored by my daughters, and my husband and I. He loved " his people " so much and shouldered more than his fair share, and never lost sight. Rest in peace, you are remembered always.
I had the honor of serving with then-First Lieutenant Chris Mahana in 1989 at Fort Ord, California in the US Army, 7th Infantry Division (Light). He was the Executive Officer for "Hard Rock" Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, the "Buffalo Regiment". We served in combat together in December of 1989-January of 1990 in Operation Just Cause in Panama. Chris was a great, inspirational leader and an all-around friendly, fun guy with a great sense of humor! Just days prior to our deployment to Panama in October of 1989, the Central Coast of California was hit by a massive 6.9 earthquake. While we were all safely outside, when it ended, Chris was selflessly running through the still-swaying barracks, making sure everyone had evacuated the building.
