Chester William Berry's Obituary
Chester William Berry, born May 16, 1921, died on June 1, 2017 of natural causes. The last of eight children born to William Elijah and Willie Alaska (Connor) Berry, he was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Bernice his wife of 52 years, siblings, Annie Mae, Helen, Thelma, Georgie, Jim, Audie, Bud, and grandson Mickey.
Chet joined the Navy in 1942 serving aboard the USS Sabine, Flint, and Amsterdam until 1945. He enjoyed reunions with his Flint shipmates and was able to visit Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight Veterans.
Chet and Alice moved to Tacoma in 1947 where he worked for Allied Paper Co., Boeing, and retired from the Tacoma School District in 1983. He enjoyed camping with his family and also square dancing with his many friends in the Hix-N-Chix Club.
Survivors include daughters, Lana Thatcher, Claudia (Greg) Mizukami, son, Kenneth (Sharon) Berry, life partner, Cherrill Strohl, grandchildren, Dan Warren, Michelle Bingham, Julie Wahlgren, nine great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
We also wish to thank Dr. Clyde Addison, Tammy Bruya/River Rock Adult Family Home, and Multicare Hospice.
A service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, June 14, in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park
