Charlotte Joan Randolph's Obituary
Charlotte Joan (Mykland) Randolph, born March 23, 1929, passed away peacefully at Issaquah Skilled Nursing Facility on the evening of March 31st, 2023. Charlotte was the daughter of Albert and Marie (Ramberget) Mykland, born five years after her sister Agnes. The family lived in Stanwood and Everett, WA, before moving to Issaquah, WA, when Albert became Superintendent of Issaquah Schools. Family was extremely important to Charlotte and she inherited her father’s love of learning and teaching. She was valedictorian of Issaquah High School’s class of 1946, then graduated from Pacific Lutheran College (Tacoma) in 1950 before going on to teach in both Olympia and Shoreline School Districts. In 1953 Charlotte married Ernest Randolph. For 20 years, she ran the business side of Ernie’s medical practice in Parkland, WA, as office manager, receptionist and bookkeeper until they both retired in 1994. Charlotte loved traveling: from camping with family, to trips with Ernie and their friends, and then trips she took with her daughter after Ernie passed away in 2001.
Charlotte was a passionately supportive and engaged mother to three children: Paula, Philip and Timothy. Like her father, she instilled a love of learning in her kids, all of whom also went on to careers in education in various forms. And like both of her parents, she treasured friends and family while welcoming everyone with openness and respect. Charlotte will be remembered as always having a positive outlook and for her unique ability to make the best of every situation. She was clever and creative and made life fun for everyone around her.
Charlotte is survived by her three children, Tim’s wife Sarah, Phil’s wife Sandy, and their daughters: Kirsten, and husband Jed with daughters Lily and Liam; Brittany, and husband Ryan with sons Riley and Rory. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. View Cemetery in Tacoma.
Charlotte had a lifelong passion for learning and reading until macular degeneration finally made reading impossible. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Macular Degeneration Association: https://macularhope.org/
