Charlotte Martha Watland
Charlotte was born in Tacoma, Washington on August 11, 1922 to Norwegian parents Charles and Jettie Kvernvik, and she passed away in Tacoma on October 14, 2008. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, and passed many Norwegian traditions on to her family. She married Elmer Watland in 1942, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage before he passed away in 1998. They twice visited Norway researching their heritage and visiting family. Charlotte is survived by her brother Lloyd (Audrey) Kvernvik, 3 daughters, Janice (Gary) Yost, Sharon (Mike) Johnston, and Wendie (Ron) Beckerdite. She leaves 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Charlotte was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and The Sons of Norway. She was a wonderful homemaker, devoted mother and wife, and retired rural route mail carrier. She lived for many years on North Lake in Auburn, WA, and most recently resided at the Weatherly Inn in Tacoma. Charlotte loved to knit, crochet, sew, and needlepoint. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her extended family. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, located at 3315 South 19th St.
