Charles A. Schwab's Obituary
Charles A. “Chuck” Schwab, 89, of Steilacoom passed away peacefully on December 17, 2013. Chuck was born in Centralia, Washington on January 1, 1924, to Frederick W. and Adelta Nye Schwab. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and graduated from Clover Park High School in 1942. He attended Montana State University in Missoula, where he became a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. As a C47 pilot, Chuck participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Allied occupation of Germany.
Chuck graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in forestry. His career spanned the private forest industry as well as state and federal forestry programs. He worked for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources for 26 years, retiring as Supervisor of Timber Sales in 1979. He also served as president of the Puget Sound Log Scaling and Grading Bureau.
Chuck loved the outdoors. He took his family camping and hiking every summer. He especially loved the National Parks. Over the years he collected many species of evergreen trees which he planted around his Steilacoom home. He was also an avid rhododendron collector. His other interests included road trips, animals, and big band music. He was a lifetime University of Washington football fan and held Husky season tickets for 50 years.
Chuck married Aberdeen native Lois Ann Frafjord in 1954. They had three children together. Lois predeceased him in 1984.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Patty Ann Forsyth, his three daughters, Pamela Cody, Diane Dettling, and Jennifer Dow, his 8 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, Washington, on Saturday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be heldon Friday, December 27, until 8:00 p.m.
