Charles C. Pierson's Obituary
Charles (Charlie) Pierson was born in Hoquiam, Washington on October 5, 1910 to Hubert and Adelaide Pierson, joining his older brother Tommy. The family lived in Hoquiam until, at the age of 11, their mother passed away and the boys went to Puyallup to live with their maternal grandparents. He attended Maplewood Elementary School and Puyallup Junior/Senior High School, graduating in 1928 as student body president. During high school, he was active in track, football and performing skits at assemblies. After high school, he attended Washington State for two years, joining Theta Xi Fraternity. He left college after the Great Depression to help his father on the ranch and in the family candy store out on the Old River Road. Shortly after, he met Evelyn, who came from Tacoma to work in the ranch’s berry fields. They were married three years later and had daughter Joanne and son Richard. Besides the candy store, Charlie worked at Hunt Foods, as a fireman, Boeing and Kaiser Aluminum. He was active in the Elks and also with the Oddfellows. After retirement, he joined a senior bowling league, took up latch hooking rugs and reading mystery novels, which he loved. He and Evelyn traveled to Maui every year for 15 years. They were married for 78 wonderful years.
Charlie was very close to all his sisters and brothers and remained close to them all his life. He loved spending time with family and is survived by his children Joanne and Richard; grandchildren Steve, Shannan (Steve), Scott (Carrie) and Julie; and great-grandchildren Monica, Derek, Richard and Kimberly.
