Where do we begin? After retiring from his military career, Chuck came to our office as a real estate agent and stayed for over 40 years – highly unusual in the real estate world. He was one of the finest men we have ever known – an angel! Every day he would come in with his McDonalds breakfast and entertain us with his smile, laughter, stories and sayings. We will forever miss: “Finer than a Frogs hair” when asked how his day was going. Another favorite: “Someday you chase the bear and others, the bear chases you!”
A dear and sweet gentleman (emphasis on “gentle”) who loved his family, treasured his wife and children, and was always kind to all. He would spend an inordinate amount of time trying to help a family find the perfect home for them – when other real estate agents would have given up and moved onto another buyer. But not Chuck, he stuck with them until they found the right home and often became good friends with the people who bought homes from him. Over the years he sold homes to their children and even the grandchildren. In the 40 years he was associated with our office, I cannot remember ever receiving a single complaint from a buyer or seller! Also highly unusual in real estate since he sold and closed hundreds of transactions over those 40 plus years. As far as I can remember, he never had an unhappy buyer or seller. When a transaction becomes problematic, it is typical to blame the Agent, but I truly do not remember ever receiving a complaint against Chuck. Everyone loved Chuck.
The electronic world did not come easy for him but before long, he embraced it. When voice mail first became available, he was quite upset that we made arrangements for each of our agents to have voice mail to get messages. He incorrectly thought we would use it to answer our office phone during the day and he wanted to get his messages the “old fashioned way.” I explained it was only going to be in use when the office was closed and would allow him to get his messages any time of the day or night, and convinced him to give it a try for a month. Within two weeks he was in my office telling me that it was the best thing since chocolate ice cream! He loved it! He was fiercely loyal to our company, kind and loving to our staff, and always ready to help someone who needed his assistance.
We have sweet memories of camping with Chuck and his family for many years as all of our children were growing up. He loved to travel in his motor home and actually he loved everything! Never a complainer, he always saw the brighter side of life and faced the challenges of his career in real estate to solve any problems that came his way closing transactions and the challenges of life itself.
Even after his retirement, he would stop by to visit our office and share his experiences and stories – and we loved it. I always described him as one of the kindest and sweetest men who ever walked the face of our world. Now he will be one of the sweetest angels, looking over us all, and again joined with the love of his life, his wife Susie! We will always miss him, remember him with our favorite “Chuck” stories, and we are all better for having him come into our lives.
For Glenda, Sherrie, and Mark, you were truly blessed to have such fine parents and you were so loved! We remember years of him bragging about his daughters and his son and it was so obvious how much he loved all of you. We are sorry for your loss (and ours) but you can be so thankful for his love and his caring ways. He will be missed and always loved!
