Charles I. Peckenpaugh's Obituary
Charles I. Peckenpaugh, Jr. passed away peacefully the evening of July 17, 2006 surrounded by his family. Charles was born February 4, 1924, in Puyallup, Washington, to parents Charles I. Sr. and Lillian Smith Peckenpaugh.He graduated from Auburn High School in 1942, was with the Merchant Marines during the bombing of Dutch Harbor. He went to Washington State College for a year, before joining the U.S. Navy in 1943. He was a corpsman aboard the USS Nassau and also served with the Marines on the island of Tinian. He returned to WSU to finish his degree in veterinary medicine, where he met his wife, Dorothy (Perry). They were married in 1949 and in 1950 he began his veterinary career at Button Veterinary Hospital. He retired in 1984.Charles was a member of Fircrest Golf Club, the Elks Club, Kiwanis and was a Hospice volunteer. He loved traveling the country in his motor home, and golf was his passion. He also enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing with his family and friends.He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 57 years; his daughter, Janet Downey (Joe), Gig Harbor; David Peckenpaugh (Jane), Fircrest; and Bob Peckenpaugh (Jennifer), California; his grandchildren, Kirsten and Erin Downey, Mike and Dan Peckenpaugh, Clare, Emma and Jack Peckenpaugh. He is also survived by his brother John (Carolyn), and numerous nieces and nephews.He will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. Special thanks to Hospice and the nursing staff at Allenmore Hospital. Donations to Hospice or the charity of your choice. Services will be held at 11:00 PM on Friday, July 21, 2006 in the Mountian View Valley Chapel.
