My condolences to the entire family. I know Charlie will be missed!
Marilyn, Jane; Charlie was an example of what human beings are capable of becoming. He was kind and warm. Thoughtful and intelligent. Funny and insightful. It was always clear that he cared so much about the people around him. He wanted others to know that he appreciated them. He built others up. He was unselfish with his compliments. He possessed a humility that could be seen in his warm eyes. He treasured relationships with those of us with whom he was a fellow passenger on spaceship earth. He is at peace now leaving this world better than he found it. He enriched many lives, certainly mine and my staffs' at the dental office. Peace and blessings to his wife and family. Thank you Charlie, for the privilege of knowing you. Ted Baer

Our Uncle lived with us on the family farm in Illinois because both his parents had died by the time he was thirteen. Our mother was his oldest sister and our father was his brother in law and they had only been married a few years but that was what families did then. My sisters and I always thought of Uncle Chuck more as a brother. He was seven years older than me and my first recollection of Charlie was our new indoor bathroom , him combing his long wavy hair looking in the mirror and the schoolbus coming, and he was not hurrying! I was in second grade and he in high school. He was always so helpful to our mother with we three young girls. He always was helpful to our dad with farm chores(milking cows , driving our John Deere tractors at harvest time and hay time and helping with cows and lambs and pigs.) we always had a baby lamb or baby pig behind the coal stove in the kitchen to try to save them when they were the runts of the litter. Charlie always had a book in his hand and I remember him sitting in the kitchen with his feet in the oven of that old coal stove reading a book. I always wanted to be a nurse and he introduced me to good books like Cherry Ames student nurse, army nurse, etc. He also took me to the movies "Lassie Come Home" One summer when he was in college my Dad paid him to paint all the buildings on the farm( barn, corn crib, chicken house, etc.) for money for college. We didn't have much money but we had good food from moms big garden, lots of love and a feeling that all is well. Charlie was there with kindness , helpfulness and happiness. I was a young child and think now how difficult that must have been for a boy of thirteen who lost both parents. He said that he loved our parents as his own and appeciated so much what they did for him. Charlie was a wonderful person and such a mentor to me. By the way I did become a nurse and was a Director of oncology/hospice for our community hospital. Judy niece/sister
You will be sorely missed.
