Charles Drues' Obituary
Following a near two-year battle with cancer, Charles (Charlie) Lionel Drues died Wednesday, June 3, at the Fox Island home of his brother. He was 51 years old. He grew up in University Place, graduated from Curtis High School, and lived on Fox Island the last 30 years. He first worked at Lakewood Printing, owned by his parents, Richard Lionel and Yvonne Battin Drues, then Tacoma Boat, and later divided his time between commercial fishing in Alaska, and carpentry locally. He is survived by his stepchildren Chris and Jenny, and stepgrandchildren Nadia and Nicole, by his mother of University Place, his brother Randy Drues of Fox Island, sister Sarah Drues of Bellingham, and by Laurel Heggers of Fox Island. He was the grandson of Dr. I.A. Drues, a Tacoma physician, and of Dr. Charles T. Battin, professor at UPS and once acting mayor of Tacoma. Charlie wanted a party for those he left behind. His life will be celebrated at the Nichols Community Center on Fox Island, Sunday, June 13, 2010, beginning at 2 p.m.
