Charles Daniel Mulholland's Obituary
Dan C. Mulholland Dan passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at around 9:30 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. He was born at Tacoma General Hospital on November 13, 1927. He lived in the Manitou area of Tacoma the majority of his life attending Edison Grade School, Gray Junior High and finally graduating from Lincoln High School where he met his beloved future wife, Lorraine and the mother of his children. They have been married 60 years of their lives and raised 5 children together in that time. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Ted & Grace Mulholland, his brothers Ted, Dale & Gary; his sister Ann Brunette and finally his granddaughter Heather and grandson Danny. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Lorraine; sons Danny (Janet), Lance & Dale (Erica); daughters Denette Colbo (Marv) & Lynette Iverson (Jim); 9 grandchildren, Eric, Damon, Sam, Caroline (Jason), Brett, Blake, Jimmy (Jodie), Donny (Irene), & Melissa (Adam); 10 great-grandchildren Kegan, Veronica, Serena, Amanda, Nick, Leenah, Amy, Reagan, Madison, & the newest addition baby Eli. He also leaves behind his best buddy and friend Otil the end, Gene Anderson and he will miss his devoted & loyal dog C.T. Dan served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II and then the reserves until the Korean War. He worked nearly his entire career for the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), graduated from Knapp Business College and served as a Revenue Officer for over 35 years retiring at 59 years of age. Following his retirement, he devoted his time to gardening and became a Master Gardener where he enjoyed growing roses as did his father before him. He also enjoyed hunting & fishing and spectator sports. He was a nationally ranked marksman and competed in national rifle shooting competitions during his 30's and 40's. He traveled to Ireland (he was proud of his Irish heritage), Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and visited most of the United States over the years. He belonged to the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174 for well over 20 years of his life and served on many community improvement boards and events including the Manitou Improvement Club & the South Tacoma Soccer Club as treasurer for many years. He proudly won a seat on the Metropolitan Park Board and served as a Commissioner for 6 years. Dan loved to follow national and local politics and was an avid reader consuming thousands of books during his lifetime. Those that knew him were aware that he had strong opinions and he was never afraid to share his thoughts. He loved learning new ideas and would share them with most. He was a good story teller and a very entertaining man. Dan and his family wish to thank the Franciscan Hospice Care Center staff for their concern and kindness during his last days. Mountain View Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Tacoma, WA 98499. Visitation: Sunday, April 27, from 12pm to 9pm. Dan's funeral service will be held Monday, April 28th, at 2:00 PM in the Garden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, he requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association Memorial & Honor Program, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, Virginia 22312.
