Charles "Chuck" Olaf Lundin's Obituary
Charles Olaf Lundin was born on January 9, 1936 in Bismark, ND; the 2nd of 6 children. The family moved to Oregon when he was in high school and he lived in the PNW ever since then. He enlisted in the Air Force as a young man and continued in the Reserves for decades, retiring in 1996. He married Rosalie Lundin in 1960 and, a few years later, they moved their young family from Portland to the south sound area. Chuck worked at Boeing for a while before finding a job with Tacoma Public Utilities and settling in the Fife/Milton area. He worked for the water division and then moved to the power division, eventually becoming a Dispatcher. He retired from that work in 1996 and then was able to devote more time to his hobbies; golf, gardening, and travel.
Outside of work, Chuck was always busy. He was a long-time member of the Meadow Park Men’s Club and greatly enjoyed the game of golf. Besides playing weekly at Meadow Park, he was always up for more if the opportunity presented itself. One of his favorite golf memories was volunteering to work at the US Open tournament at Chambers Bay in 2015. He was able to see the game’s great players up close as they walked past him on the course.
Chuck loved gardening and devoted a large portion of the backyard to that hobby. When he and Rosalie built a new house in Fife, he enjoyed the benefit of the rich valley soil and his legend grew. Beans, peas, carrots, beets, lettuce, spinach, pumpkins, zucchini, squash, peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, onions, radishes, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries were all included in his gardening resume.
Chuck and Rosalie traveled all across the US and abroad. They went on many cruises and visited various parts of the world. Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, Central and South America, and Antarctica were some of the highlights. Often, one of their grandchildren would be invited to join their vacation so Chuck could have someone to play with.
Chuck was a selfless man, always quick to help others. He was a very good amateur mechanic and worked on lots of vehicles, never asking for anything in return. He was a tireless volunteer when someone in the family had a building project. He was a member of the Washington State Grange and volunteered to serve on the Fife Civil Service Commission for a 3-year term. His prolonged time in the Air Force Reserves was a testament to his patriotism and his love of aircraft. His job in the Reserves was as a helicopter mechanic and he visited Japan, Guam, and other bases as part of his service. He and Rosalie were members at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, having began attending there over 50 years ago.
Chuck’s wife Rosalie passed away in 2009 and, in late 2010, he married Peggy Biller. They had several years together enjoying their own travels and established a new home in Bonney Lake.
Chuck passed away on January 21, 2024. He slipped away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Ruth, his wife, Rosalie, a brother (Ervin), and a sister (Janice). He is survived by his wife Peggy, daughters Lori Broberg (Tracey) and Teresa Moody, son Edward (Cara), sister Peggy DiNucci (Joe), brothers James (Betty) and Jerry (Lynda), 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
