Charles W. Carpenter
Charles (Chuck) Wilson Carpenter passed away on October 16, 2014. Chuck was born September 28, 1924 in Toppenish Washington to Homer Wilson and Louise (Luke) Bladow Carpenter. He was married to Mae Jean (Jean) Osborne on April 13, 1950.
He was preceded in death by his best friend and loving wife, Jean (2011), and his beloved son Casey (2009). He is survived by his son Mark C. Carpenter (Redmond); two grandchildren – Cody W. Carpenter (Seattle) and Morgan L. Carpenter (Keene N.H.); Nephews – Steve Osborne (Kennewick) and Scott Adams (Walla Walla); Nieces – Lynn Hill (Spokane), Julie Willis (Spokane), Kathy Schneider (Kennewick) and Leslie Osborne (Kennewick).
Chuck was very proud to have been a member of the Washington State Patrol family having reached the rank of Major, Field Force Commander. He was commissioned in 1949 and retired in 1982, but continued to stay in touch with his many respected and dear friends on the WSP.
Chuck was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific and was at the invasion of Europe at Omaha Beach, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and witnessed the signing of the Japanese Surrender documents on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay.
He was a life long avid fisherman and hunter. However, after retiring Chuck put down the fishing pole and shotgun to travel with Jean for many years around the United States by motor home, oftentimes with other WSP couples and many friends from across the state of Washington.
Special thanks to lifelong friends Byron and Glenna Mae Meyers for introducing Chuck and Jean to each other in 1948.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Washington Medical Center Liver Care & Transplantation Services. 1959 NE Pacific Street Seattle, WA 98195.
