Charles Roy Brown's Obituary
Charles Roy Brown, longtime Tacoma and Grapeview resident, passed away on February 15th, 2017 after a brief illness complicated by Alzheimer’s disease. He was 89. Charlie leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley, daughter Cynthia, stepsons Ivan and Bradley Worthington-White (Cindy), step-grandchildren Michael, Stefanie and Lindsey, great-grandchild De'Marco, nieces Lois Koning and Carol Martin and a nephew, Richard Blood. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie J. Blood, his son, David and his stepson, Brian Worthington-White.
Charlie was born on February 9, 1928, in Detroit, MI, the son of Charles S. Brown and Bessie W. Turvill. He came to Tacoma in 1953 after serving in the Army, attended the College of Puget Sound (now UPS), and decided to make the Pacific NW his home.
In addition to his long career as a credit union examiner for the State of Washington, he was active in Kiwanis International and the Tacoma Outboard Association Yacht Club, where he served as Commodore. He and Shirley were active members of their communities and enjoyed traveling the world together.
Charlie was a devoted husband, father and true friend. The number of people whose lives were impacted by him, and who loved him dearly, shows the true measure of just how special he was and how deeply he will be missed.
His family and many friends will miss his gentleness, intelligence, sense of humor and big smile more than they can say.
There will be a celebration of his life at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood on March 21st at 1 PM in the Aspen Chapel, reception following service.
Memorials may be made to the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society.
