Charles D Boesel's Obituary
Charles Dibble Boesel was born April 4, 1921 in Winthrop, Washington where his father and grandfather had both homesteaded years before. His parents, Albert (AJ) and Clara had 6 children; 5 sons, of which “Charlie“ was the third, and 1 daughter. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939 and shortly thereafter left to join the army. When he returned to the Methow Valley he was accompanied by his young bride from Chicago, Grace Barcal. A few years later they emigrated to the Puget Sound area to put down roots and raise their family.
Chuck worked at McChord Air Force Base until he retired in 1981. Shortly thereafter, he and Grace began a ten-year period when they spent the summer months living and working in a casino in Reno, Nevada, where they made many new friends as well as meeting up with old friends who came to Reno on vacations.
Chuck never lost his love for the Methow and he made the trek with his family over the Cascades every year to visit his brothers who still ranched in the area and for extended family camping trips in the Pasayten Wilderness Area.
Chuck was a kind and humble man who treated everyone he met as a potential new friend and who set an example for his children of a compassionate and loving father. He loved baseball, was an avid bowler and also lived long enough to golf his age (two hole in ones didn’t hurt).
On September 3, 2015, at the age of 94 he left this world and found his way home. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 71 years, Grace, and his four children and their spouses: Sue and Dan Holder; Steve and Dawn Boesel; Jim and Lynda Boesel; and Laurie and Todd Thompson. Heis also survived by ten grandchildren: Curt and Keith Holder, Amanda Brice and Jill Krumlauf; Greg Boesel and Melissa Wood; Eb Boesel, Ed and Michelle Sollid and Davina Labbe. And seventeen great grandchildren: Julia, Jonathan, Natalie and Allison Holder; Luke and Joia Holder; Malia Brice; Katie and Emma Wood; Sean, Courtney and David Sollid and Xavior Lincoln; Charlie and Violet Boesel; Ella and Grace Labbe. If you would like to remember and honor Chuck, you can make a donation to the Shafer Museum, Box 46, Winthrop, WA 98862. Please put a note on your check indicating this is in memory of Charles D.
