Charlene May Kercher's Obituary
Charlene May (Durham) Kercher, age 82, passed into her Savior's arms from Auburn, Washington, on April 9, 2023. Sherry, as she was best known, was born November 27, 1940, in Aberdeen, Washington. She was preceded in death by her sister, father, and mother. She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Gene Kercher; her son, Ken Kercher and his wife, Maureen Kercher. 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Sherry's growing-up years were spent in Aberdeen, Tacoma, and Westport, Washington. Some of her teen year summers were spent in Seaside, Oregon. She attended high school in Aberdeen. Sherry worked for Stadium Toy and Crafts in Tacoma, the Federal Way School District, the fish/crab cannery in Westport, Sears and Roebuck store in Federal Way, a veterinarian's office also in Federal Way, and See's Candies in Tukwila. She enjoyed helping her friend of many years at Gibson's flower shop, during "busy" seasons. She joked about her shortest job, (one day) working as a "de-beaker" for a chicken farm. Sherry's greatest joy came from being a housewife and mother which she excelled at. It was a true rarity when her home was not organized. She loved cooking, gardening, and yearly grew flowers and vegetables. In the fall Sherry would can those vegetables, and others, and she also made freezer jams. She collected miniature shoes which led to her "shoelady" on-line name. She also bought and sold vintage linens in her spare time. Sherry spent many hours with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with each one. She was the school supplies giver, every year. A huge blessing for the family. Sherry's church memberships were varied, but each one taught Biblical salvation. She truly loved fellowshipping with other Bible-believers. The Kercher family would like to heartily thank Don & Sandra Miller and Rod & Cyndi Kirks for all the care and compassion given for Sherry and Gene.
