Carolyn Walker's Obituary
Carolyn Merritt Walker Age 91, of Gig Harbor, WA, went to be with our Lord Jesus on October 26, 2011. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Hudson, IA. Carolyn was the eldest of three daughters born to Carlyle E. and Marguerite L. Merritt. She and her husband, Lewis D. Walker, moved to Tacoma, WA, and both acquired positions working for McChord Air Force Base. Carolyn worked in procurement for the base during her years there and received several awards for superior job performance. She was able to retire early to enjoy owning and living in a home in Kona-Kailua, Hawaii for six months out of each year while keeping a home in Gig Harbor to return to each spring. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining and spending time with family and friends. She loved to garden and spent numerous hours in her yard growing herbs and beautiful flowers. Carolyn loved animals and enjoyed feeding the wildlife. She was very skilled at making beautiful needlepoint pictures and quilted Hawaiian pillows and knitting. Genealogy was another one of her interests as well. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Lew Walker, her parents, and half-sister Genevieve Nichols. She is survived by her sisters Jacqueline Curtis Faker (Larry Faker) of Gig Harbor and Charlotte Schroeder of Tacoma. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Willow Room of the Celebration of Life Center at Mountain View. Donations only to the Tacoma Humane Society.
