Carolyn F (Simons) Boone's Obituary
Carolyn F. (Simons) Boone
Carolyn left us on August 29, 2016, at the age of 99. She was born in Steilacoom, WA, on April 27, 1917, to Fred and Inez Meyer. Her parents moved to Lakewood where she attended school. When she was 11, her mother passed away, and she helped raise her younger brother, Rich. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma In 1935. In 1936 Carolyn married John W. Simons and they had two children, Dan Simons (Phoebe) and Cheryl (Karl) Rosskopf.
In their early married years, Carolyn and John liked to tent camp, and later they purchased a travel trailer which made for more comfortable traveling. They had vacation property in Lincoln City, Oregon, and later at the Cowlitz Timber Trails, where they spent many leisurely summers with family and friends.
John and Carolyn were married for 42 years before he passed away in 1978. In 1983 she married Jack Boone and moved to Tumwater, WA. They were married for 18 years before his passing in 2001.
Carolyn was head cook at Clover Park HS for 13 years, and then the head cook at Curtis High School for 14 years before retiring in 1976. Before working at Clover Park, she and John ran the Lakewood Ice Rink snack bar while her children were ice skating. Carolyn took in laundry and was an excellent wallpaper hanger. She also played both the piano (self-taught) and in later years, the organ. Carolyn was known for her exceptional baking skills. There was always a dessert in the home. Carolyn had a sense of humor and would keep family and friends chuckling at her off-handed comments. She was a strong willed person, who worked hard all her life. Remarkably she lived on her own until the last eight months of her life.
She is survived by her son, Dan (Phoebe) Simons of Brush, Colorado; daughter, Cheryl (Karl) Rosskopf, of Olympia; grandson, Sam Jennings of University Place; and great grandchildren Taylor Jennings and Mackenzie Rose. Carolyn is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Kari Rosskopf, Kelli Bennett, and Kim Carter; and three step-great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Anissa, and Chance. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Meyer, and granddaughter Kelly (Jennings) Rose.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m. in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. Following the service, and in honor of Carolyn’s favorite places to eat, everyone is invited to a reception at the Old Country Buffet, 5815 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd SW, Tacoma, WA 98499.
