Carole Ann (Berger) Shehane's Obituary
Carole Ann (Berger) Shehane, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in July 2024. She was born on March 4, 1939, in Tacoma, WA, to May Wilhemsen and Joe Berger, and lived most of her life in the Tacoma area.
Carole attended Lincoln High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and began building the foundation of a life filled with love, laughter, and kindness. She married Jack Shehane, with whom she raised two daughters, Cynthia (Kennedy) and Caren (Lamoreaux). Carole was blessed with two granddaughters, Danielle and Denise, and a great-granddaughter, Rhaina, who affectionately called her “Grandma Bunny”, which she enjoyed quite a bit.
Carole’s compassionate heart extended to both people and animals. She had an extraordinary ability to see the best in everyone, rarely speaking a negative word about anyone. Her infectious laugh and gentle spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her. Carole had a special place in her heart for dogs and pets, especially those who were "tough to love," offering them the unconditional love and care they needed.
She found joy in simple pleasures, like garage-sailing and daily walks with her neighbors. She enjoyed playing Bingo, where she was often the youngest in the hall for many years. Later in life, she turned her competitive side loose in Bunco. She owned a never-ending library of National Geographic Magazines indicated a desire to see and experience the world.
A devoted Seattle Mariners fan, Carole rarely missed a game, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty, even during their most challenging seasons.
In 1992, Carole found companionship again marrying Lonnie Bird, her devoted travel companion. Together, they shared many adventures, traveling between their home in Tacoma and their second home in Yuma, Arizona.
Carole is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Rob) and Caren (Bob) her granddaughters, Danielle and Denise, and her great-granddaughter, Rhaina. She also leaves behind her sisters, Jeanne Elsdon, Donna Stewart, and Roberta (Bill) McFadden, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Carole will be remembered for her warm heart, her love for family and friends, and her gentle soul that touched the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you enjoy a Mariner’s game and/or by making a donation to a local animal shelter.
