Carol L. Beckwith's Obituary
Carol Leigh Beckwith, 77, from the town of Steilacoom, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017, after a year-long battle from complications due to open-heart surgery. Carol was born on January 2, 1940, in Tacoma, WA, and was the 3rd of 4 children. She attended Franklin Pierce High School and graduated in 1958. She was a song leader at FPHS and also worked at the Dairy Diner on 99th and Pacific Avenue while in high school.
Carol spent her working career at various banks and savings & loan institutions. She much preferred the personal atmosphere of the smaller savings & loan companies. She catered to her clients and enjoyed making the small town connection with the members. She retired from her savings & loan career as an Operations Supervisor.
Carol spent much of her retirement overseeing their condo association board, working at local car shows, showing their car, and serving on the safety committee for the City of Steilacoom. Carol had a successful 8 year run for the SHEF by the Bay Car Show. She was the heart and soul of that car show but would never take any credit for its success. Jim and Carol have won numerous trophies and awards for their 1950 Chevy Coupe. They received the Good Guys Pick at the Good Guys Car Show in Puyallup in 2011, which is quite an honor. She treasured all of the friendships she created with her fellow car show travelers. Carol also enjoyed gardening, antique shopping, and traveling down the Oregon coast especially the Yachats area.
Carol is preceded in death by her mom and dad, Anna & David McPherson and brother, William. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James, brother, Fred (Dorothy) McPherson, sister, Diane Jamerson, son, David (Nancy), grandson, Aaron (Bryna), and daughter, Debbie (Lynn).
Carol requested that no services be held. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to be made to any of the following organizations: the Steilacoom Historical Education Foundation, www.shefonline.com, the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, and/or the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
