CARMEN BARRENA HIVELYMilitary WifeCarmen was born to Casimiro and Inocencia Barrena in Mount Hope, WV on January 19, 1924. She was raised in Detroit, MI before migrating to CA in 1942. She was a rising starlet under contract to Paramount Studios.While working on a movie entitled Rainbow Island, she met Lt. Walter M. Hively as he toured the studio. They were married about six months later on their seventh date. As she made the transition to military wife, she bore two children, Dennis Maurice and Reesa Ann.Carmen accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior while the family was stationed in Washington, D.C. in 1953. She has been a member of Berachah Church in Houston, Texas for over thirty years. Carmen went to be with her Lord October 13, 2003 at home in Lakewood.As a showman, she was happiest around those she loved delighting in using her talents to entertain or to teach. She worked with young people at teen clubs while moving from base to base. She choreographed and performed in stage shows and water ballet. While stationed on Okinawa, she joined a performing arts group. She learned native dances and performed on local television. She was employed by Clover Park school system as a teacher's aide from 1968, retiring in 1985 from Lakeview Elementary. She fought cancer and several other diseases from 1971 until her passing. Her passing will be grieved by her husband, Walter; two children, Dennis of Lakewood and Reesa Goyt and her husband Richard of Renton; grandchildren, Kristy Doyle of Buckley and Sgt. Thomas Goyt at Fort Bliss, TX; and brothers, Charles and Antonio in CA. Preceding Carmen in death was her elder granddaughter, Richann Perdue. She dearly loved her five great-grandchildren, and many friends worldwide. The family wishes to thank the host of medical professionals who loved and cared for her during her illnesses and the many prayer groups who uplifted her for healing and comfort. Memorial services will be at 4 P.M., Saturday, October 18, 2003 at the Mt. View Valley Chapel. Pastor Jim Kennington of Lake City Community Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Franciscan Hospice, c/o Franciscan Foundation for Health Care, P.O. Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401 in her name.
