i remember shaking his hand and saying hi to him almost every sunday and at quizzing or youth group. He would always smile so big and sincerely and it just brightened my day that in spite of everything he had gone thru/was going thru he had such joy##imported-begin##Elisabeth Saffold##imported-end##
When I was a 16 year old teen just over 40 years ago, "Mr. Stillman" called me up to suggest that I train to be an extra telegrapher and station agent for the Northern Pacific Railway. Too shy and fearful, I initially said "no", but Chuck encouraged me to reconsider. Thanks to his persistent interest in me, I did train at Clover Park Technical School, and was thereafter able to work my way through college and law school over seven consecutive summers at railroad stations throughout Western Washington. Because Chuck was Chief Dispatcher, I wrote "CGS" on many train orders over those years, but his initials are also written on my heart. Chuck was one of those few men who took an active interest in my life, education and, later, my career. He cheerfully wrote reference letters on request! Ultimately, the railroad experience and legal education that Chuck helped me secure opened the door for me to serve as General Counsel for the Alaska Railroad. Without Chuck, my life would have been so different! I have no idea how many other young people Chuck encouraged and sponsored over the years. There were many. I do know that Chuck's own children are simply outstanding and godly people who reflect their parents' values and interest in the welfare of others. God's good and faithful servants, Chuck and Anabelle have left a tremendous legacy. Our memories of them bring smiles and warm affection.##imported-begin##Larry Wood##imported-end##
My condolences on your loss, Don.
Please pass along condolences to your family also. From personal experience, you will always miss your parents, but it is the natural progression of life.
I didn't really know your Dad, just your Mom, but you were an upstanding "boy" so they must have been good people. (I can't believe it's been 45 years since we graduated C.P. High.) God Bless, Barbara Walton Jackson##imported-begin##Barbara Jackson##imported-end##
I had the privilege of growing up in LCCC and therefore, knowing Chuck & Annabelle. Both had warm, friendly, welcoming words for everyone. I knew them to be involved, loving people. In regards to Chuck, his smile is the first thing that comes to mind! (Many of his family and extended family have that same wonderful smile!) I knew him to be the husband of Annabelle, the father of Kathy & Diana (I didn't know the son, sorry!), and just a fine, kind gentleman. In reading his obituary, I learned so much more about him. That he was involved in so many organizations certainly affirms his caring nature. Many, many people were blessed to know this man! You all are in my prayers as you adjust to daily life without him "here". (How VERY wonderful to know where he is!)
Praying for your comfort,

Chuck was always there to help, whether it was with 4-H or just the right word. I'll never forget the tree planting in Orting. It rained a lot, so we would sit in front of the D-7 to stay warm, while we ate our lunches and talked. Great times and better memories. I'll really miss him.##imported-begin##George Wood##imported-end##
