Cappy W. McIntire's Obituary
CAPPY WINSTON MCINTIRE (SMSGT, USAF Ret)
Born in Grants Pass, OR, on April 28, 1934, to Guy Sheridan McIntire and Marjean Verda (Meyers) McIntire. He passed away at home in Spanaway, WA, on January 31, 2016.
At the age of three, Cappy moved with his parents to Project City, CA, where his father went to work on Shasta Dam. Cappy graduated from Shasta Union High School in 1952 and
attended Shasta Jr. College until 1954 when his Selective Service Number came up. In
August 1954 he joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. Cappy and Rae were
married in March 1956 in Medford, OR. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958 from
which he retired in 1975 and the family returned to Tacoma. He entered Bates Voc. School where he studied Woodworking and Painting and Decorating and eventually had his own shop. Later, he taught Woodworking at Ft. Lewis. He was awarded many commendations over the years including the Bronze Star and the College Football Hall of Fame Award at Shasta College.
Cappy entered DeMolay while in High School and served as Master Councilor. When he
was stationed on Okinawa in 1961, he joined the Masons and later joined Royal A. Gove
Lodge (now Fern Hill) in Tacoma. In 1998 he and his son, Mark, joined Scottish Rite where Cappy was later awarded the 33rd degree. He served many times as Rainbow Dad in Cedar Assembly Order of Rainbow for Girls, Chapter Dad in Tacoma DeMolay and at the Potts of Gold Rainbow and the DeMolay facilities. Cappy rarely met a stranger, but when he did that stranger soon became his friend. He was a loving person and enjoyed being with people. He was like that even as a small boy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Richard Guy McIntire. His
survivors are his wife, Rae L. (McCurdy) McIntire, his sons, Mark L. McIntire of Spanaway and Scott D. (Corinna) McIntire of West Linn, OR, his daughter, Shawna R. McIntire of Anchorage, AK, his grandson, Cameron C. McIntire, his granddaughters, Christina (Ryan) McGinnis and Brittany (Jason) Leitzke and his great-grandchildren, Shea McGinnis and Caleb Leitzke, and cousin Deanna Joy Meyers of Grants Pass, OR.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 12, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood followed by a reception at Scottish Rite, 817 S Vassault. in lieu of flowers, he wished that donations be sent to Multicare Hospice Care, P.O. Box 5296 Tacoma, WA 98405 or to the Cancer Foundation. Special thanks go to the wonderful caregivers from Multicare Hospice.
