Calvy Victor Preston's Obituary
Calvy Victor Preston died suddenly while on vacation in Los Bonas, CA of heart failure. He was a resident of Yelm, WA. He was born July 19, 1927 in Faulton, ND to Danial & Edith Preston. He came to the Seattle area at an early age and completed elementary school here and high school in CO. Calvy proudly served in the US Merchant Marines and the US Navy from 1944 thru 1953 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer where he visited ports in Australia, China, Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, India and stationed in San Diego, CA. He was a life member of VFW Post #5580 Federal Way, WA and Puyallup Elks Lodge. During his residence in Des Moines in the 1960Â's thru 1970Â's he was active with his step childrenÂ's activities, Boy Scouts, P.T.A., Little League, and community events and traveling across the country with his family. After the Korean War he returned and began a Sales career that included Firestone tires, vacuum cleaners and General Motors autos. He retired in 1989 from RobertÂ's Motor in Auburn, WA. He worked for Goodwill Industries for seven years and Wal-Mart, in Auburn for 3 years. He gave himself to many volunteer organizations including Tacoma Salvation Army, Santa Clause for Boys and Girls Club and others. He was active in many food drives and holiday distributions through the Federal Way Elks and the Yelm Senior Center, helping many friends and relatives through the years.He is survived by wife of 24 years, Laurel Okert Preston, Lucinda Larson (Phil), Michele Skinner (David), Teresa Fleming (Kevin), Randy Okert (Daina), Roylynn Ware, Thor Ware (Wendy), Zane Ware, and sister Verna Quickel, all in the area. Calvy is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins in various locations; Nome AK, CO, N. Dakota, CA, Seattle, and Tacoma. In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to your favorite charity or the Yelm Fire Dept. EMT. Services will be held TODAY, Thursday, October 10, 2002 at 1 PM in the Mountain View Garden Chapel.
