My heart is heavy today, knowing I was unable to be there to pay my final respects to a wonderful man as well as to be there for Paulette and her family. Calvin was one of the most kind people I ever had the pleasure of meeting. His devotion to Paulette was undeniable, and he was a true blessing to all he encountered. Calvin will be sorely missed and never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the Cranshaw family during this difficult time. May you take comfort in knowing Calvin is pain-free now and in a better place, and that he touched so many of us. I knew Calvin for just a short time but I remember him well, he was a fine young man.It was the fall of 1968 and I was doing my student teaching with Fred Reed, a sixth grade teacher at McCarver.The students treated me kindly and I was grateful to have had such a positive beginning to my teaching career.Three students from that class have stayed on my mind; Eddie Cammon, Clinton Spencer and Calvin. They had class, loads of it, especially Calvin.

Calvin I know that God wrapped his big ole arms around you and took you straight on up to the pearlie gates in heaven. Take care and enjoy the folks who have passed on before you. Paulette, our heartfelt condolences go out to you and all the family. Calvin will be truly missed. I am so glad I got to spend time with you guys a few weeks ago. Tony and I have missed the times we all used to spend together over the last 6 or 7 years. From our times at the Jazz Festival every year, to our impromtu BBQ's, and even our "throw together whatever we had in the fridge" dinners we always had a great time. When he called me a few weeks ago and asked if I would make him a cake "that night", no matter how tired I was I knew I couldn't say no. I hope he thoroughly enjoyed it! We love you cuz. Auntie, I am so sorry for your loss. But I am happy for Calvin, he has made it home to his Father and he suffers no more.
