Bruce Richard Shoop's Obituary
Lifelong Tacoma resident Bruce R. Shoop, 64, passed away on January 2, 2013.
Born March 24, 1948, Bruce was the sixth of Mary and Ralph Shoop's 12 children. He attended Arlington Elementary and Gray Junior High, and graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in 1967. His training at Bates Vocational School landed him a job as a cashier in the grocery business, a career he enjoyed for many years.
Away from work Bruce enjoyed fishing, camping, blackberry picking, and rooting for the New York Yankees. His fish stories were famous for their content and delivery. He was also known for his humor and generosity among friends and family.
Bruce is survived by his son, Paul Shoop of Gig Harbor, and daughters, Hayley and Hilary Shoop of Lakewood. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Jane Shoop of Tacoma, brothers, Bill (Patty) Shoop of Tacoma, Peter (Joanne) Shoop of Lakewood and Kevin Shoop of Tacoma, sisters, Kathy (Nigel) O'Brian of Comox, B.C., Lynn (Egon) Christensen of Puyallup, Wilma (Alan) Machin of Eugene, OR, Suzanne Shoop of Tacoma, Cynthia (Jack) Gilletti of Puyallup, and Mary (Charlie) Gay of Seattle, along with numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Shoop and brothers Stephen Shoop and Robert Shoop.
Special thanks to his dear friend and exceptional caregiver Dan Russell for sharing his home and his faith with Bruce, in Bruce's final weeks.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 19, beginning at 3 p.m. The church is located at 5236 East "B" Street, Tacoma. Phone (253) 472-4795 for directions
