Brian Scott Jones' Obituary
Brian Scott Jones was born on Mothers’ Day, May 12, 1974, to Cynthia and Robert Jones of McKenna, WA. His arrival was announced that morning by his sister, Angela, to the congregation of the McKenna Community Church.
He was a student in the Yelm School District and the New Market Skills Center in Tumwater.
Brian enjoyed helping people. At the time of his accident he had finished rebuilding a fence for his great aunt and was restoring his grandparents’ garage. Brian chose to be an organ donor. He was legally blind but two people may have sight due to his gift.
Always wanting to know how and why, he subscribed to a science encyclopedia. He did horticultural experiments with poppy seeds. He made a crossbow, a Gatling gun for BB’s, and a flame thrower. He experimented with his own formulas for explosives to achieve varying outcomes. He made knives, and fashioned wood tool handles and gun stocks. Brian melted metal to make objects he designed.
Other interests included wild mushroom hunting, target shooting, electronics, and teasing his sister.
In January, 1993, while driving to school, Brian was in an accident resulting in serious injuries including total paralysis and closed-head traumatic brain injury. He was left with only his memories and sense of humor. In January 2002, his mother and sister welcomed him home, and on January 7, 2017, Brian became free of his many physical limitations.
Preceded in death by his father and grandparents, he left behind his mother, sister, brother-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
