Brian Kenneth Gnirk's Obituary
Brian Kenneth Gnirk, a cherished father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 51, at his home. Born in Belleville, Illinois, on March 29, 1973, Brian moved to Tacoma, Washington, at the age of one. He spent 30 years there before settling on the Key Peninsula, where he lived for the last 20 years of his life and enjoying the freedom of country living. As a master diesel mechanic, talented craftsman and fearless tree topper. Brian was known for the unmistakable rumble of his truck—a reflection of the pride he took in everything he did. His hands shaped machines, but it was his heart that shaped the lives of those around him. Brian's love for his family was deep and unwavering and it showed in everything he did. Brian was married to Heather Topp for several years and together they had two children. Though they later divorced, Brian remained a dedicated father to his children. In 2004, Brian had a son with his long-time friend, Christy Berntzen, to whom he remained equally devoted. He is survived by his three children: Bryant Gnirk (31), Courtney Brock-Rupp (29) and Jacob Berntzen (20), along with his two grandchildren, Layla (9) and Kameron (6 months). He is also survived by his mother, Lynda Henry and his two brothers, Ron Payne and Rick Payne. Brian’s legacy lives on in the many lives he had touched—through his family, friends and the lessons he shared. His influence will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. Brian often said, “Life’s a garden, dig it,” and now he is digging in heaven’s garden. We will forever love and remember him.
