It has been some time since I've been around, but the news of Brenda's passing has deeply saddened my heart. (My love goes out to you Dave, Pat and Angie.)
Brenda and I met at Lake Retreat in 5th grade. We were in a cabin of little girls who loved horses! At the time we attended different grade schools, but after the summer we met up again to embark together on the transitional and often awkward years of middle school.
Some of my fondest memories of Brenda are from when we cleaned stalls together on Saturdays, in exchange for riding lessons. A Saturday morning would go quickly as we jumped and rolled in the enormous pile of sawdust used to line the stalls. By lunch time, most of what was lined, was our ears, eyes, lungs, and clothes! The lady who owned the stables also owned a brigade of ornery little ponies. For our lunch breaks, Brenda and I would each pick a pony, and ride together to a suitable lunch spot in the field...that is
if our ponies didn't buck us off before getting there! We would eat lunch, discuss middle school politics, sing Heart songs, and of course laugh.
When I think of Brenda, two words come to mind to describe her: Boisterously joyful.
I left after our junior year in high school and Brenda and I didn't really cross paths after that. She did however remain in my heart and mind as an integral part of fond memories of the past. She will remain there forever. She was a pillar of strength.##imported-begin##Gwen Copeland (Jen)##imported-end##
