Bonita Jean Olson's Obituary
Bonita (Bonnie) Jean Olson
2/6/40 – 3/25/15
Bonnie lost her courageous 6-year ovarian cancer battle on March 25th.
She was born in Alliance, NE. When Bonnie was four, her family (father Jesse Corbin, mother Margaret and sister Jackie) moved to Altadena, CA.
Surviving two years of rheumatic fever as a child, she went on to be a regionally recognized figure skater. She attended John Muir HS in Pasadena and San Jose State College where she pledged Delta Gamma.
Upon graduation she became an elementary school teacher in Apple Valley, CA. Bonnie married Richard Miller and raised three children (Richard II, Dale and Elicia) in Corona del Mar, CA. While raising them she began a career in human resources.
In 1992 she married Nick Olson who retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1997 after 35 years. They moved to Tacoma (Nick’s birthplace) that year and she continued her HR career in aerospace. She retired in 2008 and almost immediately became a volunteer at the Museum of Flight. Bonnie ultimately became a docent and served on the Docent Leadership Council.
Bonnie will be remembered for the way she made people feel when they were around her. Her great sense of humor, humility and caring for others endeared her to everyone she met. She leaves behind her husband, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and Dizzy the dog.
The family would like to thank Dr. Heidi Gray and the staff at Seattle Cancer Care (SCCA), the caregivers from Franciscan Hospice and nurses Lorena and Sondra for all their help and caring.
Her celebration of life service will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Federal Way on Friday, April 10th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, Bonnie requested donations to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (seattlecca.org).
