Billy Gene Woodley's Obituary
Billy G Woodley was born on August 6, 1947 to William and Catherine Woodley in El Centro, California. After a long battle with diabetes, he passed away at a local hospital here in Tacoma, Washington on January 30, 2020 with many family members by his bedside.
He met Barbara Tate in Modesto, California. He married her in Carson City, Nevada on November 14, 1971. Billy joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington as a military police officer. He had a short tour in Okinawa, Japan and then returned to Fort Lewis where he was honorably discharged after serving for more than 7 years. He then moved the family to Tacoma where he worked and retired at the Monroe Reformatory as a Correctional Unit Supervisor.
He attended school in El Centro and Modesto, California. Billy continued his education while he served in the US Army and after. He received his Associate degree from Fort Steilacoom in criminal law. He received his bachelor’s degree in education at Illinois College. He received his Master’s degree at PLU in human relations.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one brother. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife Barbara of 48 years; a daughter Artie Burnett (Kenneth) of Killeen, Texas; two sons Daniel Woodley (Stacie)of Spanaway, Washington; Billy M Woodley (Dinelle) of Tacoma, Washington; six grandchildren Micaela Woodley, Nehemia Woodley, Marissa Woodley, Kendriq Burnett, Unique Woodley, Jalan Woodley; one brother; two sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
