Billy Lee Prather's Obituary
Billy Lee Prather, age 71, passed on June 29th, 2015.
He was born in Pryor, Oklahoma and raised in Bakersfield, California. He came to WA in 1972 when he transferred up to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from Hunter’s Point. He was originally a pipefitter in Shop 56 and later joined the Work Control and Test Engineering division (code 246), as it became to be known, after a short stint as code 365. He was a “plank-owner” in this new code and was an integral part of the success of this new division within the shipyard. After 35 years of federal service he retired in 2005.
Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, snowmobiling, building cars, car shows, cruising in the old car, riding quads and dirtbikes. In his retirement he enjoyed wintering in Florence, Arizona and RV’ing. He was a member of the Midnight Riders car club, Polarbear snowmobile club, Elks, and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Shirley Prather, daughter and son-in-law Tamra and Greg Pratt, sons Keith, Dan, and David Prather along with grandchildren Jeremy and Rachael Pratt; and Alexis and Mackenzie Prather.
Bill was the kind of man who could accomplish anything he set his mind to and will be greatly missed by family and friends, including his faithful dog Katie.
Please leave condolences and memories to the tribute wall. In lieu of flowers, do something nice for someone.
